November 2024 Member Spotlight: Jerry Marti
Jerry Marti is an Assistant District Attorney in the Appeals Bureau of the Erie County District Attorney’s Office where he handles all post-conviction litigation, serves as a legal advisor, and assists in attorney recruitment and training.
A Wealth of Experience
Marti began his career in public service as an Assistant District Attorney with the Queens District Attorney’s Office where he prosecuted domestic violence cases, conducted homicide investigations, and argued appeals before the Appellate Division, Second Department.
Marti also spent more than fifteen years in private practice handling litigation, arbitration, and appellate matters, including ten years with Travelers Insurance Company, first as Team Leader in New York City and later as Senior Counsel and Diversity Liaison in Buffalo, New York. During this time, he led a team of attorneys at the start of their careers and took part in efforts to recruit diverse candidates.
Promotes Jury Service from Diverse Communities
In addition to his support of the MBAWNY, Marti works with the Commissioner of Jurors, Judges, and local leaders to promote jury service from diverse communities in Erie County.
Most recently, he testified on behalf of the Acting District Attorney before the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission on jury diversification.
Empowers the Next Generation of Attorneys
Marti believes in giving back to the next generation of attorneys. He has judged moot court competitions for the University at Buffalo School of Law and the National Black Law Students Association. In addition, he has presented on United States Supreme Court cases for the Bar Association of Erie County and career issues for the Bar Association's Young Lawyers Committee.
Was a Member of Latino American Law Students Association
Marti received his bachelor’s degree from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and his juris doctor degree from Cornell Law School. While attending law school, he was a member of the Latino American Law Students Association, completed a judicial externship, and won an international moot court competition.
